2019 Instrumental Music Lesson Application

Bunbury Catholic College has a proud history of producing music excellence. This is made possible by providing instrumental music lessons, quality classroom music programs and ensemble opportunities to our students.

Music lessons are a wonderful opportunity for all students. It ensures the school has full and balanced ensembles. It is critical to the success of the team that we have all positions covered and everyone is committed to lessons and rehearsals.

Lessons are available for the following instruments:

• Woodwind: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone

• Brass: Trumpet, Trombone, Horn, Tuba

• Voice: Classical, Contemporary, Music Theatre

• Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass

• Percussion: Drum set (modern drum kit)

• Piano: Classical, Modern, Keyboard

• Guitar: Bass, Electric, Acoustic

The program offers paired and private lessons operating on a rotating timetable, limiting disruptions to daily class learning. There are also some instruments available for hire.

It is expected all students will continue learning their instrument for the full academic year.

Lesson Fees

Lesson type and duration.

One on one private lesson for 30 minutes. Cost $35

Paired share lesson for 30 minutes. Cost $20.

PRIVATE LESSONS Private lessons are a one on one lesson and are the most beneficial way for students to learn their chosen instrument.

PAIRED LESSONS Paired lessons are for beginner students only and are only available if two or more students have enrolled for the same instrument. Paired lessons will run for a maximum of 2 school terms after which time students are expected to start individual lessons. All students progress at different rates and for this reason students may be offered an individual lesson after just 1 term.

  • A Maintenance fee of $13 per term is billed for Electric Guitar, Bass and Percussion instruments
  • Instrument Hire is $35.00 per term (Please note that guitars and percussion equipment are unavailable for hire.)
  • Please note there is a $35.00 enrolment fee for new students.
  • New enrolments receive a tutor book and music diary
  • 36 lessons are provided throughout the school year

  • IMPORTANT LESSON INFORMATION AND CONDITIONS

    1. Fees

    a) Continued enrolment in the music program is subject to the full payment of your music tuition fees and all other general school fees.

    b) Issues regarding tuition fees should first be directed to the Instrumental Music Coordinator and then the Director of Music.

    2. Attendance

    a) Timetables will be issued to students and families via email prior to the start of each school term.

    b) Students are expected to attend lessons as shown on the timetable (variations will occur from time to time due to special school activities and other events).

    c) Students should not miss a lesson due to another school activity unless they are leaving the school or the tutor has been contacted in advance.

    d) Early notice that a lesson will be missed will assist with re-scheduling another time.

    e) No lessons will be re-scheduled due to family holidays taken during the school term.

    f) Lessons will only be rescheduled if:

    a. The tutor has been notified 2 days prior to the scheduled lesson (contact details are in the music diaries).

    b. Due to sickness:

    i. The tutor has been notified prior to the lessons (text, email, phone before 8:00am)

    ii. If the tutor is absent and the annual lesson quota is not gong to be met.

    g) A message left on the school absentee line IS NOT an acceptable form of notice, as tutors do not access to this information in a timely manner.

    h) Re-scheduled lessons will be provided at a time convenient to the tutor in consultation with students.

    i) Where a student enrolled in a pair lesson receives an individual lesson, this may count as 2 lessons.

    3. Change Of Enrolment

    a) Enrolment in the program will continue for a full school year unless altered or discontinued.

    b) NOTICE OF WITHDRAWAL MUST BE RECEIVED IN WRITING BY WEEK 8 OF THE PRECEDING TERM.

    c) Lessons cannot be cancelled at any other time

    4. Lesson Equipment

    a) Lessons records, lesson books, music folder, pencil, eraser and own musical equipment (as required).

    5. General

    a) Further enquiries should be directed to the Instrumental Music Coordinator or the Director Of Music.

  • Student Commitment

    I choose to take part in the 2020 Music Program. I am committed to the following:
    • To practice on my instrument for at least twenty minutes, five times a week.
    • To attend the appropriate school ensemble rehearsal each week.
    • To look after my instrument, whether hired from school or my own.
    • To attend my weekly music lessons as scheduled.
    • To remember to bring my instrument, music diary and music book to school on lesson days.,
    • To notify my tutor as soon as possible or at least 48 hours prior to my lesson if I am unavailable to attend my next lesson for any reason.
  • Parent Authorisation

    Parent Authorisation If my child commences music lessons at school, I agree:
    • To his/her full participation in the music program.
    • All students learning an instrument at the college are required to be in an ensemble. If there is no ensemble availability for the instrument being taught, the student must belong to a choir.
    • The music lesson fees and hire cost (if applicable) will be billed to my College Music Fee account and I understand that this account is separate from my general school fees account.
    • To buy the required instrumental books and accessories as required.
    • My child intends to continue lessons for the full academic year. Notice of withdrawal must be received in writing by Week 8 of the preceding term.
    • Enrolment continues from year to year unless notification of withdrawal is given as stated above.
    • Students in Year 8 MUST enroll in Classroom Music for full the year if learning an instrument at school.
    • All vocal students will be required to be in a school choir.
    • If you know your child won’t be able to make a lesson you MUST contact the tutor directly at least 48 hours prior to the lesson. In these cases the lesson will be rescheduled. Failure to do so will result in you being charged for the missed lesson.
    If the instrument is hired, I agree to:
    • Ensure the instrument is treated with care.
    • Pay for any repairs required other than general wear and tear.
    • Ensure that the instrument is covered for insurance.
