Piotr who was Dux of BCC in 1996 and he is an Electrical Engineer with the Royal Australian Air Force. He has been recognized by institutes globally for his exceptional scholarship (he was awarded a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering in the United State) and his contribution to the field of Electronic Warfare. His work has been recognized by the RAAF for ensuring the safety of Australian Defence Force Personnel, in particular with his support of the Missile Approach Warning System which is currently fitted to ADF aircraft. He has also done much voluntary work, including riding 1500 kilometres from Alice Springs to Adelaide to raise money for Legacy. On a personal note, he has completed marathons, ultra-marathons and ironman contests in Australia and the United States and successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, to the summit.
We recognise John’s long-standing contribution to the Community. He is of course our current State Member of Parliament, the Member for Bunbury and has been since 2005. He was previously a City of Bunbury Councillor for six years, Mayor for eight years and a State Government Minister. John is also the Patron of Bunbury Respect which is behind the Choose Respect Initiative.
David who graduated from BCC in 1989, has been busy. He is Chairman of Atlas Iron Limited, having previously been Managing Director of this company which he started in 2004 after completing a Bachelor of Science at the WA School of Mines in Kalgoorlie. In 2010 he was named Ernst and Young’s Australian entrepreneur of the Year for listed Companies. He is Currently the Chancellor of Murdoch University and a Director of the Mining Hall of Fame to name just a few of his commitments.
In 2011 he was awarded the inaugural Governor’s Award for Giving. He is an Eisenhower Fellow, having completed the Eisenhower Fellowship which selects only 50 leaders globally to attend an intensive leadership program in the United States, focusing on philanthropy, indigenous enterprise and community connection in 2013. He is this year’s Western Australian of the Year.
Konrad is a fulltime jazz pianist with the world renowned John Pizzarelli Quartet, based in New York. Konrad was named ‘Young West Australian Instrumentalist of the Year’ at the age of 14. Since graduating from BCC in 2006, Konrad studied Jazz Piano at WAAPA and was named most outstanding graduating student. He was also the winner of the Generations in Jazz James Morrison Scholarship, the first pianist to win this prestigious award. He obtained his Masters Degree in Music at the University of Miami, then based himself in LA for two years before moving to New York. He formed his own trio, which recorded two albums and played with the likes of the famous trumpeter, Wynton Marsalis. He now travels the world performing.
We recognize David’s commitment to the Community of Bunbury and the wider southwest as a lawyer, Member of State Parliament, State Minister, Councillor, Mayor and Volunteer. David has been a Councillor of the City of Bunbury for 10 years, a Member of Parliament for 15 years, during which time he contributed to the establishment of Edith Cowan University, the Bunbury Entertainment Centre, the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries and Marleston Hill. He was a State Minister for 5 years and most recently Mayor of Bunbury for 8 years, serving until last year. He is also involved in numerous volunteer position and is a keen sportsman, a Life Member of the Bunbury Marist Hockey Club and most interestingly, in his day, won the State Under 19 club 100 and 220 yard Sprinting Championships.
Loretta has been part of management at the English National Opera, in London for ten years and as Chief Executive Officer for seven years. One of her greatest business achievements was to turn around the fortunes of the Opera which was going through difficult times. During her time at the helm, which ended in 2015, the English National Opera developed a reputation for bold, distinctive and award winning work and increased its national partnerships. She became one of the most powerful women in the British Arts scene! Loretta was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire), presented by Prince Charles in 2014.
