College Alumni Intertwined In History Production

Our College has many connections to the hugely popular local theatre production called This is Where…featuring Pat’s Snack Bar Pop-up.

The sold-out production created by Siobhan Maiden ran at Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre during April, taking audiences on a tour of the CBD where actors played people who were reminiscing about parts of their lives that took place in the exact location.

The College is proud to acknowledge Class of 2025 graduate Jarvis Russell who was stage manager and technician for the dramatic scene played at the Pavilion nightclub.

Jarvis says he learned so much about lighting and audio while he was a student, from Drama Teacher and now Assistant Deputy Gerard Robertson, that he is now working as a Production Technician at BREC.

“Robbo has been fundamental in getting my role at BREC and working on events like the Semester Dance Concerts has given me lots of experience that I have been able to apply here,” Jarvis said.

Jarvis’ journey to working as a lighting technician resembles the path of BREC Technician Logan Turner (Class of 2023) who designed all the lighting for the scenes played in the Cube Theatre. Both learned much of their skill base while they were students at Bunbury Catholic College — taking hands-on roles during performances and assemblies.

Two scenes played at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery are almost certainly based on the memories of College alumni, artists Alex Mickle and Nicole Ranson, who attended St Joseph’s School when the BRAG building was a Sisters of Mercy Convent. The couple graduated from BCC together in 1987, and last year they were inducted into the Hall of Distinction in recognition of their talents.

And, in another link to the popular show about Bunbury in the late 20th Century, Lead Artist Siobhan Maiden was herself a teacher at the College in 2018.

In the ‘This is Where… Production Crew’ photograph on the Staircase at BREC, in the top row, Logan Turner is in the middle and Jarvis Russell is on the left, and Siobhan Maiden is wearing blue in the front row.
