2026 South West Career Expo

The 2026 South West Career Expo, hosted at our College on 6 May, drew an impressive crowd of students, job seekers and community members from across the region. Attendees from 25 local high schools explored opportunities and connected with industry professionals, employers and training providers from 71 exhibiting organisations, the largest number in the event’s 19-year history.

With the expanded exhibitor list, the Expo operated across both the La Valla Sports Centre and the connecting oval. Outdoor displays were a highlight, giving visitors hands‑on experiences such as:

Exploring the 14 ton Army Reserve Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle, trying on WA Police riot gear, speaking with WesTrac heavy‑diesel mechanics, operating the Qube crane simulator and sitting inside the Qube prime mover. They also had the chance to experience jockey training through a horse-riding simulator and take part in an interactive firefighting activity using fire hoses with the Bunbury Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.

Event sponsor Retravision once again supported the Expo, offering a 55” TCL television as a door prize. The lucky winner was our Year 10 student Taylor Jones. Community Manager Andrew Roberts visited the College to present the prize, noting Retravision’s pride in supporting the Expo since its inception. Taylor thanked Retravision and said he has set his sights on a Carpentry Apprenticeship after speaking with presenters at Get Careers where he received valuable information to get him started.

VET and Careers Coordinator Michael Downes reported a significant increase in community attendance compared to previous years. He also highlighted the continued success of the sensory‑friendly session, which has become an essential part of the event by providing a low‑stimulation environment for sensory‑sensitive visitors. He is looking forward to the 20th anniversary of the South West Career Expo in 2027.

The South West Career Expo is a free event designed to connect students, job seekers, and the wider community with local industries, education pathways and employment opportunities across the South West.
