Curriculum Year 8

The curriculum in Year 8 is based on the firm foundation of knowledge and skills developed in Year 7. The curriculum is contemporary in nature and incorporates still further use of learning technologies that students were introduced to in Year 7, to equip them for success in future schooling years and in their life beyond school. Academic streaming of students may occur in English, Humanities, Mathematics and Science.

ELECTIVE SUBJECTS

Having experienced a taste of the full range of electives in Year 7, elective choices in Year 8 allow students to start building their capacity and expertise as they progress through Years 8, 9 and 10.

Students will complete two electives per semester. In line with School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) guidelines, all Year 8 students will be enrolled in Digital Technologies in either Semester One or Semester Two. Students must then select three (3) other electives to complete throughout the year, one each from the learning areas of Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Design & Technology.

Each student will be enrolled in one elective from each of the following learning areas:

Visual Arts

  • Art (2D)
  • Media Arts
  • Creative Clay

Design & Technology

  • Food Technology
  • Materials Technology
  • Textiles

Performing Arts

  • Dance
  • Drama
  • Music
